Vietnam War Editorial

The Vietnam War is a war between communist North Vietnam (called Vietcongs) and South Vietnam. The United States never fully committed to the war but still sent 500,000 troops to fight for it. The main reason we were ever in Vietnam is to stop Communism from having a 'domino effect' and spreading to other Asian countries. If communism did spread then the United States could be in trouble. The problem with this war is that we are fighting an enemy that looks exactly like the civilians in the area, we are fighting in dense jungles with very little visibility, and we are having trouble pushing forward. We combated the jungles with Agent Orange, a herbicide used to kill the vegetation in the jungles and get more visibility, but the Agent Orange is killing hundreds of thousands of innocent people and leaving children with birth defects. All in all the Vietnam War caused over 5 Million people died in this war, which in the end was dragged on by the US. The Vietnam Veterans didn't get a good welcome home either. The Vietnam War was the first war captured on video and when the American people saw the film, they began protesting the war. The Vietnam War was one big waste of time for US especially since we lost South Vietnam to communism a while after we left.
