Bay of Pigs Invasion

The Bay of Pigs invasion was a plan to invade Southern Cuba and overthrow Fidel Castro. It was going to be a group of Cuban exiles invading Cuba with the support of the US government. The plan was to bomb the Cuban air fields and destroy the Cuban air support. After that about 1,000 troops invade from a beach named Playa Giron. Due to ships malfunctioning and things not going according to plan the entire invasion was doomed. Once on shore about 200 paratroopers dropped nearby to make road blocks, 1 could not hold it at all, and the other group held it for 2 days but eventually fell.  The leader of the Invasion, Osvaldo Ramirez was captured and immediately executed. Later air attacks along with equipment drops offered hope for the resistance, but after another day victory seemed everything but possible. With troops, vehicles, and equipment low the invasion was stopped by Castro's army. About 400 lives were lost in the invasion with much more wounded.
